Gurugram, December 13, 2019 - The World Travel & Tourism Council, India Initiative (WTTCII) has appointed Mr. Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, as its Chairman for the year 2020. The announcement was made at the launch of the 6th edition of the WTTCII-HOTELIVATE, State Ranking Survey 2019 in the presence of Shri. Prahlad Singh Patel, Hon'ble Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, and other dignitaries.
Mr. Singh, who had served as the Vice Chairman, WTTCII for the year 2019, took over from Mr. Rajeev Talwar, Chief Executive Officer, DLF. Mr. Singh is also on the Board of Governors of the prestigious International Air Transport Association.
“I am deeply honoured to take over as the Chairman of the World Travel & Tourism Council, India Initiative. Given India’s rich cultural diversity, the travel and tourism potential of our country is unparalleled and I look forward to working closely with the government and the industry to realise this potential,” Mr. Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet said.
The latest edition of the State Ranking Survey noted that states such as Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Tripura had shown remarkable improvement since its launch in 2009 while the North Eastern States had also shown tremendous improvement. It also stated how the recent policies like the new E-Tourist Visa Policy, the reduction of GST on hotels, have given a big fillip to the industry and lauded these new interventions made by the Government.
The first State Ranking Survey was launched back in 2009, with the endeavour to encourage the state governments and the political leadership therein to take a more favourable stance, to take cognizance of the Tourism industry, which can contribute significantly to the State’s GDP, employment and infrastructure, as well as have tangible social impact.
The World Travel & Tourism Council, India Initiative (WTTCII) was launched in February 2000 to raise awareness of the crucial role that travel and tourism plays in the development and growth of the economy in India.
