Gurgaon, April 14, 2017: SpiceJet, India’s favorite budget airline,
today announced the launch of a Unified Payment Interface (UPI) as a payment option on
its website, allowing passengers to conveniently pay online using a mobile handset. The
integration will allow SpiceJet passengers to use their unique UPI IDs i.e. Virtual
Payment Address to pay for all bookings made on the SpiceJet website. This payment
solution, implemented by HSBC Bank on the SpiceJet network, is the latest addition to
the already existing host of payment options currently available on Spicejet.com.
On entering the UPI ID, the passenger only need to authorize the payment to SpiceJet
using their UPI PIN on the UPI app being used to complete the transaction.
SpiceJet acknowledges UPI as a leap forward in the digitization of the economy in the
millennia and with the integration in place, the company resonates with the
government’s drive towards a digital economy. With the launch, SpiceJet will become one
of the key merchants to accept payments via UPI.

Launched by National payment Corporation of India (NPCI) and regulated by Reserve Bank
of India (RBI), UPI is a unique payment solution built to empower customers to initiate
payment requests through their smartphone. UPI allows customer to pay directly from
their bank account via the UPI ID to different merchants without the hassle of typing
card details or account numbers,. UPI’s architecture is based upon Immediate payment
service (IMPS) thereby making it a robust real time platform.
